Bertha Persons

Bertha Mae Persons, age 99 of LaCygne, Kansas died Sunday January 17, 2010 at the North Point Skilled Nursing Facility at Paola, Kansas. She was born on September 21, 1910 at Worland, Missouri the daughter of James and Linnie Turpen Scrogham. Bertha started teaching in the mid 1930's in Boicourt, Kansas. She married James "Percy" Persons on October 21, 1937 at Girard, Kansas it was the tenth anniversary of the first time they had met, he preceded her in death on September 10, 1989. Bertha then taught for many years in the LaCygne school district and received her bachelors in education from Kansas State College in Pittsburg, Kansas in the 1960's. She retired from teaching in the early 1970's, where she and Percy spent their summers fishing in Canada. Bertha was preceded in death by three brothers; Clyde, Frank, and Harold Scrogham, three sisters; Peggy Huff, Wanda Jarred, and Lee Hixson. Survivors include a brother; James Scrogham of Edwardsville, Kansas, and a sister, Nona "Opal" Evans of Wichita, Kansas. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday January 19, 2010 at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home LaCygne, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to service time. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery LaCygne, Kansas. Contributions are suggested to the LaCygne Public Library. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.coffelschneider.com.
