Charles Eldon Lanham, age 90 of Mound City, Kansas, died Saturday September 21, 2013 at the Kansas City Hospice House at Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on July 9, 1923, at the family home, the son of Walter and Dola Lanham. He was married to Edna Grace McGee on January 28, 1944 in Mound City, Kansas to this union 4 children were born Eldon, Eugene, Dale and Mary. He was inducted into the United States Army and served in the 328th Infantry Regt. as a squad leader (rifleman). He was awarded a Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge and Battle Stars for action in France, Belgium, Luxemburg, and Germany. He received an honorable discharge on September 28, 1945 after being gone for 11 months. Charles was a member of the Wall Street Christian Church, Hewitt-New American Legion Post and Farm Bureau. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife Edna, three sons: Eldon Lanham and wife Jeanine of Mound City, Eugene Lanham and wife Nancy of Mound City and Dale Lanham and wife Vickie of Yates Center, Kansas, a daughter Mary Greene and husband David of Overland Park, Kansas, fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday September 24, 2013 at the Curry Cemetery near Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday September 23, 2013 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory Mound City Chapel.
