Charles Edwin Sutterby, age 73, of Blue Mound, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 19, 2025—just one day before his 74th birthday.
Born on June 20, 1951, in Colony, Kansas, Charles was the son of George Calvin and Rosa Jane (Wilson) Sutterby. He was a proud graduate of Blue Mound High School and went on to attend vocational school at Pittsburg State University for two years. During this time, he also served in the Army National Guard.
Work was important to Charles. He worked in the maintenance field for seven years at Kleins Tools and most notably worked at AFG (AGC) Glass Manufacturing in Spring Hill Kansas for 30 years specializing in air compressors. He currently was employed as a driver for the USD 346 school district for the past 4 years. Charles was a devoted member of the Republican Party. He was also deeply involved in his community and faith attending the Blue Mound Bible Church where he served as an elder. As an active member of Gideons International, he participated in local jail ministries and was always willing to lend a hand at the Blue Moon concession stand.
A man of many passions, Charles enjoyed fishing, music, reading, spending time at the Blue Mound Library and most of all, spending time supporting his grandchildren in all of their activities. His family and community meant the world to him.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Calvin Lee Sutterby, and a sister, Linda Jane Davis.
He is survived by his two sons, Ryan Sutterby and wife Tammy, and Caleb Sutterby and wife Sarah; a brother, Curtis George Sutterby; and five beloved grandchildren: Mitchell and Brett Sutterby of San Tan Valley Arizona, Calleigh, Crew, and Cajer Sutterby of Blue Mound.
Charles will be remembered for his faithful heart, steady presence, and deep love for his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at the Blue Mound Bible Church. Visitation will be from 10 am until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Mapleton Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Blue Moon Youth Center or Gideon's International.
