Claron Ray Yates, age 58, Garnett, Kansas passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014. He was born to John H. and Murriell Walter Yates on July 15, 1956 at Garnett, Kansas. He grew up in the Greely area and graduated from Garnett High School. Claron then moved to Houston, Texas taking a job with Exxon Mobile. He then worked in law enforcement in Garnett and Osage City. He recently retired from Overbrook, Kansas USD 434 after sixteen years of service. Claron was a quiet and gentle soul who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid marksman. His passion for firearms took him and his friends to gun shows far and wide. He truly believed everyone should know how to handle a firearm properly. He enjoyed family, friends and telling stories of his life. Claron was preceded in death by his father, John Harden Yates, mother, Murriell Yates-Wilson, and brother David Lee Yates. He is survived by his sister Jane Danner and husband Gary, nephew Mike Katzer and wife Melissa, niece Monica Katzer, sister in law Barbara Yates, niece Tracy Schneider, husband Todd, and their four children: Blaise, Aidan, Giavona, and Celeste, and step father Earl Wilson. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, November 17, 2014 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Burial will be in the Garnett Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 5 PM Sunday at the Mound City Chapel. Contributions are suggested to Hunter''s Safety. On line condolences for the family can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
