Doris Schmelzla

Jean Schmelzla, 72, of Prescott, Kansas, died Monday, June 13, 2005 at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born November 23, 1932 in Oregon County, Missouri, the daughter of George and Hazel Strain Giesken.. She married Gerald Schmelzla on May 4, 1957 at Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1978. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ in Fort Scott, Kansas. She was preceded in death also by her parents; one sister, Shirley Swopes and one nephew, Doug Shaner.. Survivors include one son, Scott Schmelzla of Pittsburg, Kansas; one daughter, Susan Roberts and husband, Ron of Prescott, Kansas; one brother, Jake Giesken & wife, Glenda of Maryville, Missouri; two sisters, Jo Shaner and husband, Merlin and Georgia Fletcher and husband, Donnie, all of Eldorado Springs, Missouri; her uncle, Joe Giesken; two aunts, Mary Gallagher and Monica Zirphas and husband, Willie; and 12 nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 16, 2005 at the Pleasanton Cemetery, Pleasanton, Kansas. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton. Contributions are suggested to the Church of Christ, Fort Scott, Kansas.
