Glenn Mcgee

Glenn Edison McGee, age 96 died quietly Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Prescott Country View Nursing Home. He was born September 24, 1910 at Blue Mound, Kansas, the son of James Edison and Lila Addie Paddock McGee. He attended Washington country school and Blue Mound High School where he graduated in 1927 in three years. He accepted the Lord and was baptized in 1923 and was an active member of the Wall Street Christian Church, serving as Elder. Glenn married Reta Faye Dizmang on July 18, 1931. they lived on the same farm all their married life and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1981. Glenn was a farmer/stockman until 2000, when his health declined. He and Reta received the Linn County Soil Conservation Award in 1951 and on May 2, 1965, received a trophy at the 52nd Annual Cattle Feeders Day at Kansas State University. Glenn, a long time cattle feeder in Linn County, dating back to his boyhood days, was recognized for his production by the Kansas Beef Production contest. He also received an award, sponsored by the Agriculture Commission of the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the Animal Husbandry Department of Kansas City University. Glenn received a plaque from the Farmers & Merchants Bank, Mound City for 43 years of outstanding service as director and officer of the board. Glenn was a 50 year member of the Grange. He was a charter member of the Blue Mound Lions Club. He was a board member of both the Washington country school and the Blue Mound High School for many years. Glenn received an award September 10, 2002 for having a Century Farm by the Farm Bureau. Glenn & Reta took several trips, one of which was to the Holy Land in 1979. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Reta; his parents; his sisters, Ione Jackson & Blanche Holmes; and a son-in-law, Harold Rogers. He is survived on one son, Charles McGee & wife, Carolyn of Blue Mound, Kansas; one daughter, Eleanor Rogers of Mapleton, Kansas; 5 grandchildren: Clarence McGee & wife, Debbie of Blue Mound, Kimberly Young & husband, Bob of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Susan Smith & husband, Richard of Houston, Texas, Karen Olson & husband, Richie of Olathe, Kansas and Tim Rogers & wife, Susan of Topeka, Kansas; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; nieces & nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at the Wall Street Christian Church. Contributions are suggested to the Glenn McGee Memorial Fund. Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery.
