Ida Stites

September 21, 1913 — June 4, 2005

Cleo Driskill Stites passed away on June 4, 2005 at the Louisburg Care Center in Louisburg, KS. She was born September 21, 1913, the daughter of Marion and Prudie Baston Driskill near Pleasanton, KS. She grew up in the Richland Community near Farlinville and attended grade school at the Potosi Community School. She later attended High School in Mound City. She was united in marriage to Vail Stites on November 22, 1933 in Mound City, KS. To this union two sons were born, Marion Wallace and Marvin Vail Stites. She and her husband Vail, lived their entire lives in Linn County. They moved to the Stites family farm in 1951 where she resided until she moved to LaCygne, KS following the death of her husband. Ida Cleo was a member of the Parker United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she taught Sunday school classes, played the piano and sang in the choir as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of the Loyal Workers neighborhood club and sang in the Amazaing Grace Choir. She is survived by two sons; Marion Stites and wife, Patricia of Paola, KS; and Marvin Stites and wife, Louise of Centerville, KS; 4 grandchildren, Lonnie Stites and wife, Angela of Spring Hill, KS, Dale Stites and wife, JoAnn of Centerville, KS; Rita Stites Greufe of Olathe, KS and April Hite and husband, Ken of Lawrence, KS; 8 great grandchildren, Logan, Garrett, Briana Stites, Amy and Michelle Greufe, Isaiah, Elijah and Malachi Hite. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vail on January 6, 2000, one brother, Marion Carl Driskill and 3 sisters, Glenna McRae, Mary Flo Stark and Esther Grace Hodgson. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 7th at the Parker United Methodist Church, Parker, KS. Visitation will be 7-8 PM, Monday, June 6th at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, LaCygne, KS. Contributions are suggested to Parker United Methodist Church c/o the funeral home. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Farlinville, KS.
