Lee's Summit, Missouri

Jackie Ray “Jack” Harris, 75, passed away on May 21, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of service, dedication, and memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.  Jack dedicated much of his life to serving others through military and law enforcement service.  He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Vietnam Veteran before beginning a distinguished career in law enforcement. He served as a sheriff’s deputy for the Cass County Sheriff's Office and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, where he later worked as a detective. During his career, he was also a member of the Metro Squad, which investigated major cases throughout the Kansas City metro area, and he became known for his expertise as an arson investigation specialist. His passion for serving his community continued when he ran for sheriff of Linn County and later served as Chief of Police for Linn Valley Lakes.  Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jack was a proud member of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and greatly enjoyed riding his motorcycles. He loved cheering on the Chiefs and Royals and was a fan of KU football and basketball. He could often be found watching old westerns and detective shows, reading books about the same subjects, and sharing stories from his years in law enforcement. Most of all, he treasured spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Jeanie Swartz and her husband Jay of Lone Jack, Missouri, and Becky Jones and her husband Stan of Wichita, Kansas; his brother Jim Harris; his sister Linda Parks; his grandchildren Jeffrey, Blake, Jayson, Austin, and Anna; and his great-grandchildren Liam, Bennett, Everett, Everly, and Paisley.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Betty Harris; his brother Alan Harris; and his sister Karen Hopper.
