James Dunn

James Ross Dunn, 83, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas. He was born January 21, 1921 at Houston, Missouri the son of Alva and Julia Baker Dunn. He married Louise Parascondola on November 21, 1952 at Dwight, Illinois. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Battery B 862nd Field Artillery Battalion. He served in the European Theatre with the United States Army and was awarded five bronze stars. Following the war,he worked for Midwestern Construction Company as a welder and later advanced to superintendent in the pipeline industry. In 1963, with Eugene Staton, he formed a company called, Midway Construction Company. He remained with this company as director and president until 1970. He then started Action Excavation and Action Construction Company in 1983. He sold this company and founded Action Pipeline Construction Company in 1990.Jim received the honor of being inducted into the Pipeliner's Hall of Fame in Houston, Texas at the age of 71. He was an entrepreneur in area real estate and automobile businesses. Jim was a member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Fort Scott, Kansas; VFW, Masonic Lodge and OES of Pleasanton, Mirza Temple and past member of Shrine Mounted Patrol; American Legion, Mound City, Kansas; the Pipliner's Local #798 and the NRA. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Dunn and three sisters; Bernie Meirer, Johnnie June Teel and Hattie Wayne. Survivors include his wife, Louise of Pleasanton, Kansas; one son, James Dunn Jr. of Baudette, Minnesota; one daughter, Anita Eakins of Stilwell, Kansas; one brother, Alva Dunn Jr. of Boring,Oregon; two sisters, Viola Shorter of Lansing, Kansas and Peggy Brownback of Omaha, Nebraska and five grandchildren.
