Janet Concannon

July 9, 1941 — February 11, 2007

Janet Houston Concannon, 65, of Pascagoula, Mississippi, died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at her home . She was born July 9, 1941 in Colby, Kansas, the daughter of Charles C. and Lucile Jackson Houston. She graduated from Emporia State University in 1962 and began her career teaching elementary school art. She later taught in several elementary schools in both Pascagoula and Gautier. After a long career as a public elementary school teacher, she retired and served in the children's book areas of the Moss Point and Pascagoula branches of the Jackson County public Library. Janet was an artist in her younger years and was an enthusiastic floral gardener. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Michael "Mike" Concannon of Pascagoula, Mississippi; two sons, Douglas Concannon and wife, Nancy of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and Craig Concannon and wife, Angela of Huntsville, Alabama; four grandchildren, Clay, Michael, and Ashley Concannon of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and Evelyn Concannon of Huntsville, Alabama; two sisters, Helen marie Kirk of Tucson, Arizona and Edna Troth of Pleasanton, Kansas; and a brother, Charles c. Houston, Jr. of Topeka, Kansas. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the First Christian Church, Pleasanton, Kansas. Inurnment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, LaCygne, Kansas. The family suggests contributions to the Janet Concannon Memorial Art Scholarship at 1200 Highland, Emporia State University or the American Cancer Society.
