John Charles Rees Jr., age 80, passed away Thursday May 24, 2018 at his home in Cherokee, Kansas. He was born July 10, 1937 at Fort Scott, Kansas the son John Charles and A''Delle McHenry Rees. He attended Fort Scott Community College and Pittsburg State University receiving a Masters Degree in Education. During his teaching career he taught math, history, science and physical education. He married Clara Lero. To this union, four children were born. John served his country in the United States Navy. John was a Catholic attending church in whatever community he and Clara were living in. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post #35. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bill and a grandson, Brandon. He is survived by his wife, Clara, son Charles Rees and wife Carmin, three daughters: Dianne Tucker, Brenda Wort and Shirley Eden and husband Ron, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mound City, Kansas. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 before Mass. Burial will be in the Mapleton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Monday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Contributions are suggested to American Legion Post #35 or Care to Share.
