Joseph Nicholas Wurtz, age 58, Mound City, Kansas passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Nick was born in St. Charles, Missouri on October 27, 1963 the son of Richard Joseph and Janice Holt Wurtz. He graduated from Jayhawk Linn High School in the Class of 1982. He attended University of Kansas, Fort Scott Community College and received a Bachelor's Degree from Pittsburg State University in 2003. He was a member of the Mound City United Methodist Church. He was a well read individual who had a great interest in the history of Mound City, state of Kansas and local politics. Nick enjoyed spending time with his friends (which to him was about anyone he met!) He was Democratic committee chair for Paris Township. Nick was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his mother, Janice Wurtz, sister, Missy Wurtz, brother, Chris Wurtz, two nieces Tristian Smith(Brandon) and Jenae Daniels(Adam), extended family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5 at the Mound City United Methodist Church with lunch being served after service. Visitation Friday from 5-7 also at the Mound City Methodist Church with Nick’s famous birthday party menu of brats, hotdogs and cider. Nick will be laid to rest in the Linnville Cemetery at a later date.
