Judith Cosens

September 14, 1945 — December 1, 2005

Judith Ann Cosens, age 60, of Gardner, Kansas, died December 1, 1945 at Medicalodge of Gardner. She was born September 14, 1945, the fifth child of the late Fred R. and Florence Wilson Cosens. Diagnosed at birth with Downs Syndrome, she led an active and normal life, always happy, helpful, and somewhat mischievous which always brought a few laughs and entertainment at family gatherings. With her loving nature, she was a friend to everyone. Judy attended elementary school at Mantey through 4th grade and then transferred to the State Training School in Parsons, KS during the winter months until the age of 21. She resided with her mother on the farm west of Mantey until 1972 when they moved to Mound City. She was a member of the Home Interest Club in Mantey and the United Methodist Church in Mound City. Judy & her mother were active in the Senior Citizens program in Mound City where Judy helped with serving the daily meals. When her mother grew older, the roles reversed and Judy became her mother's caregiver until her mother passed away at the age of 98. Judy moved to Medicalodge of Gardner to be closer to her sister, Annette, who has lovingly devoted herself to Judy's needs. Judy will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Fred & Jerry Cosens and one sister, Dorothy Wade. Survivors include her sister, Annette Hoffman of Gardner, KS and a brother, Floyd Cosens and wife, Naomi of Pleasanton, KS and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the Woodland Cemetery, Mound City, KS. Contributions are suggested to either Hospice of Kansas or Medicalodge Activity Fund.
