Lester Vergil McCoy, age 75, of Mapleton, Kansas passed away at his home, Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Lester was born on October 12, 1942, the son of Buster and Nellie Brewer McCoy in Paola, Kansas. He was a meat cutter by trade. He was the Master Knife Maker for the Miami Indian Tribe and also was a gourd dancer. He enjoyed hunting, especially during deer season at deer camp, fishing and showing horses. He volunteered at the Mapleton and Prescott food pantries and with the Shriners. He was a deacon at the Mount Orum Baptist Church in Redfield, Kansas. He married Gail Carpenter on June 25, 1994 at Osawatomie, Kansas. Lester is survived by his wife, Gail, a son, Andrew McCoy of Belt, Montana, three daughters, Judith Cummins of Olathe, Kansas, Stacy Holle and Ethan of Kansas City, Missouri, Nicole Bradley of Perryville, Missouri, two sisters, Nellie Louise Brandt and Adelaide Massetene, twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Lester Eugene McCoy, daughter, Alice Lue McCoy, three brothers, Kenneth, Bussie and Harold McCoy and one grandchild, Trinity Diane Henneberg. A Memorial Service will be held at 5 pm, Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 pm, Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in the Myaamia Tribal Cemetery.
