Loree Long

July 19, 1930 — May 11, 2019

Loree June Long, 88, of Mound City Kansas, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019. She was born on July 19, 1930 in Utleyville, Colorado to Paul and Mary June Jones McGown. She graduated from Mound City High School in 1946 at the age of 15. Loree married Thomas Lee Smith on November 10,1946, a marriage that lasted almost 31 years until Tommy passed in 1977. They had 4 children together. Loree married Paul L. Long of LaCygne, Kansas on June 13, 1981, becoming a proud stepmom to 6 children, the youngest 2 still at home at that time. Loree was a long-standing member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She began attending Mound City Christian Church in 1996, and joined the church not long after that. Loree was a very talented woman. Anything she set her mind to, she could do. She worked outside of the home most of her adult years at various jobs. She was a beautiful seamstress, making many of her children''s clothes, including some pretty elaborate wedding dresses. She decorated wedding cakes for her children and many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed gardening and had a passion for reading; especially historical novels. She loved to travel, and she has album upon album of pictures of her many trips. She didn''t make it to all 50 states, and never got to take her Alaskan cruise that she so desperately wanted to do, but she did travel extensively in the U.S. as well as to Canada, England, Scotland, Australia and many ports of call when she and Paul went on a Caribbean cruise with her oldest son, David, and his wife. Loree was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Thomas Lee Smith and Paul L. Long, sisters Wilma Neal, Margaret Allison and Shirley Stogsdill, brothers Gib McGown, Charles {Buck} Jones, Darrel Jones, son David Lee Smith and grandson Brandon Lee Metzner. She is survived by her children Gene Smith and wife Pam, Kay Bowman and husband John, Shara Metzner and husband Tom, David Long and wife Gloria, Linda Andersen and husband Eddie, Janette Bennet and husband Danny, Marilyn Chandler and husband Jim, Jim Long and wife Rosemary, Mendy Scott and husband Jim, sisters Elaine Yokum and husband Delbert, Irene Jones and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Loree will be greatly missed, but we know she is resting with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and we will see her again one day.
