Lorie Kay Boyd

Lorie Kay Boyd was born on August 3, 1964 in Topeka, Kansas to Terry Michael and Vera Marie (Hisey) Smethers. Two months short of her 3rd birthday she welcomed her baby sister, Brenda, into the family.  Lorie's family moved to Moran when Lorie was 7 years old. She attended school in Moran and graduated from Marmaton Valley High School in the Class of 1982.

Lorie has had a lifelong love of butterflies and has amassed a huge collection of them in all shapes, sizes, colors, patterns, and materials. She also had an insatiable love of music. Often playing a particular song on repeat for hours at time and driving her sister and everyone else in the house crazy. During her late teen and early adult years, Lorie coached girls softball. On November 16, 1986 she married the love of her life, Edward Thomas Boyd at her home in Moran, KS. and became an instant mother to his two children, Brandi and Josh. Ed and Lorie were blessed with two more children, Kayleena and Kayson. Lorie was a Girl Scout leader for a number of years and truly enjoyed spending time with the girls. Lorie loved arts and crafts and she was always busy with a new project. She and Ed led a very active life, especially in the summer when they would hold Pedal Tractor Pulls at various county and state fairs and hometown celebrations. Lorie loved to play cards and was extremely competitive. Her children were heard to say that some Mom's let their kids win, but not their Mom. She was a member of the Mound City United Methodist Church where she was very active in church activities as long as her health allowed. Lorie had a positive outlook on life and even when her health began declining 8 years ago, she never forgot how to smile and encourage others. Ed and Lorie were true to their marriage vows and supported and loved each other through thick and thin, sickness and health. Lorie loved her family. On Saturday, June 22, 2024, she and Ed were coming home from a family gathering when they were involved in an auto accident that claimed Lorie's life.

Lorie was preceded in death by her father, Terry Smethers on April 6, 2015. Those left here on earth to mourn her loss are her husband, Ed Boyd; two sons, Kayson Boyd and Josh Boyd his wife Bailee; two daughters, Kayleena Sloan and her husband Josh, and Brandi Willard and her husband John; her mother Vera Smethers and her special friend, Darrel Booth; one sister, Brenda Beckman and her husband Cleve; 9 grandchildren, Layne, Levi, Logan, Luke, Nora, Tristian, Sierra, Morgan, and Brayden.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Friday, June 28, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Schneider Funeral Home & Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Mound City United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Kincaid Cemetery, Kincaid, KS. The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or Mound City United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home at PO Box J, Mound City, KS 66056.
