Loris Cook

Loris Marie Cook, 86, of Osawatomie passed away at 6:30 am on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Olathe Medical Center. Loris was born April 23, 1931 in Monett, Missouri to John Henry and Goldie Mae (Crossland) Stewart. She attended Purdy schools and graduated from Purdy High School with the Class of 1949. On June 4, 1949 she married Hal L. Cook at Monett, Missouri. They were married 62 years. Loris loved music and was an accomplished pianist having taught piano for over 60 years in both Missouri and Kansas. Loris and Hal made their home in Kansas City, then Lee's Summit for many years, forming a lifelong friendship with the family of Catherine Hudson Moran. They eventually moved to Garnett where Hal retired in 1989 from Otis Elevator Company. Loris was honored to serve as the accompanist for Missouri State Senator Emory Melton's Quartet. Loris enjoyed crocheting and playing bingo. She greatly loved spending time with family and friends whether it was visiting with her sisters by phone or keeping up with her high school friends and alumni activities. She was especially proud of her son, Danny for his service in the United States Navy; her grandson, Jeremy for his service in the United States Marine Corps; her granddaughter, Shelby for her service in the United States Coast Guard; her grandson Tim for his service in the ROTC; and her grandson Dustin for his devoted dedication as a firefighter. She deeply loved and cherished all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Loris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hal L. Cook on July 19, 2011; daughter, Linda Wanell Cook Farquhar on January 4, 2016; one granddaughter, Elisa Marie Farquhar; two brothers, Phillip Stewart and Richard "Sonny" Stewart, and three sisters, Eva Nell Hemphill, June Hughey, and Ruth Ann Denney. Survivors include one son, Danny Carl Cook; one daughter, Tammy L. Eastwood; seven grandchildren and their families, Timothy Farquhar and wife Kelley and their son Kai; Dustin Farquhar and wife Alissa and their children, Pierce, Christian, Rowland, and Kennedy; Shelby N. Lickteig and her fiancé Brian Head; Wm. Henry Wyatt Lickteig; Jeremy David Cook, Samantha Leigh Cook and her son Angelo Fiore, and Christopher James Cook; and two sisters, Barbara Ward, and Mary Lou Robberson. The family is honoring Loris' wishes to be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
