MARY ETHEL ERICKSON Mary Ethel Erickson, age 101, of Amsterdam, Missouri died Friday March 17, 2006 at Willow Lane in Butler, Missouri. She was born on August 27, 1904 at Amsterdam, Missouri the daughter of Asa Wilson and Emma Caroline Moothart Towers. Her formal schooling included grades one and two at Plainview, grade three at Center, grades six through eleven at Amsterdam; Mary rode a horse at this time except when the horse was needed for farming. Her formal schooling ended with her graduation from Amoret. She married Ray August Erickson on March 18, 1926. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1993. Mary lived at home until she moved into the Silver Oak Assisted Living at Butler. She entered Willow Lane in June of 2005. Mary was a member of the Amsterdam Baptist Church where she was active in the teaching of Sunday School and Bible School, as well as being involved with the music program. Also preceding her were three brothers: Ray, Floyd, and Charles Towers; and two sisters, Lillie Ordwein, and Carrie Stanfill. Survivors include two daughters: Rose Marie McDonnell and husband L.K. of Archie, Missouri, and Mary Marjorie Gunnels and husband Marvin of LaMesa, California, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law Earl Erickson. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday March 20 at the Amsterdam Baptist Church. Burial in the Scott Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 AM until service at the church.
