Melvin Lee Ransier age 86 of Pleasanton, Kansas passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Melvin was born Saturday, April 23, 1932 in Pleasanton, Kansas the son of Otis and Sarah Jane (Hartman) Ransier. Melvin served in the United States Army for five years, where he received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of the United Mine Workers and was a retired coal miner. Melvin loved mushroom hunting and fishing. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Shirley, second wife Bessie, a daughter Mary Ransier, nine brothers Pete, Floyd, Earnest, Grover, Gene, Art, Vernon, Otis and Dick Ransier, and three sisters Helen Ransier, Floretta Ransier and Ruth Ellen Beasley. He is survived by four sons, Robert McCallum, David, Ernest and Billy Ransier, four daughters, Linda Christenson, Charlene Wynn, Kathy Marshall and Caral "Tina" Hiel, three stepsons Sam, Larry and Jeff Brittle, one step grandson Danny Looney, several grandchildren and several great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 pm, Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel.
