Mildred Jaeger

MILDRED JAEGER Mildred Huff Jaeger, 85, passed away November 28th at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas. Mildred was born August 8th, 1921 at Prescott, Kansas to George W. and Violet Putnam Huff. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents a brother, Lloyd G. Huff, and a grand daughter Nicole Jaeger. Mildred graduated from Mound City High School and Fort Scott Junior College. While in college, Mildred participated in the Civilian Pilot Training program and learned to fly single engine aircraft. Upon graduating from college she attended flight reservations school and worked for Delta Airlines in Atlanta, and Pennsylvania Central Airlines in Cleveland. While in Cleveland she enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corp. that later became the Women's Army Corp. Mildred was a member of the 29th WAC Company, one of the first WAC units assigned to Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Mildred was stationed at Fort Sheridan for the duration of WWII and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant on November 4, 1945. While at Fort Sheridan, she met her future husband, Clinton J. Jaeger Jr. and was married April 8th, 1943. Mildred is survived by her husband, daughter, Joyce Stillwaugh of Colorado Springs, sons; Greg of Oklahoma City, and Erik of Mound City along with seven grandsons and one granddaughter and three great granddaughters. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 4th at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:00 PM, Sunday at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the American Legion or Kansas Veterans Home. Inurnment will be in the Woodland Cemetery, Mound City. Arrangements: Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City, Kansas.
