Muriel Hampton

October 31, 1916 — December 5, 2008

Muriel C. Hampton, age 92, of LaCygne, Kansas passed away Friday December 5, 2008 at St. Luke Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born Oct. 31, 1916 near Cadmus to Frank L and Bessie P. Shattuck Crisler. She grew up on the farm and attended Pleasant View elementary school. She graduated from Parker Rural High School in 1935. On June 12, 1938 she married Olen W. Hampton in Livermore, California. After a brief time in California, they lived most of their 70 years of marriage farming in the Parker and LaCygne area. They became parents of 4 children. They also opened their home to her niece and nephew, Carol and Don Woolever, after the death of their parents. She was a homemaker , but worked briefly at Osawatomie State Hospital and Mode-O-Day in Osawatomie. Muriel was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Cadmus EHU, a 50 year member of the Cadmus Grange and the LaCygne Christian Church, a woman that lived her faith and was always willing to help family and others whenever she could. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents , one brother John Crisler and four sisters, Jessie Crisler in infancy , Mabel Cox , Edna Boehm and Doris Woolever. Survivors include her husband Olen, of the home, one son Jerry Hampton and wife Kathleen, three daughters , Kay Coffin and husband Larry, Connie Eaton and husband George all of LaCygne and Vickie Eaton and husband Carl of Coal City, Illinois; 9 grandchildren, Tim Coffin, Lori Polley, Pam Haupt, Kristy Tatum, Shannon Litts, Jeff Hampton, Kerry Schulz, Brian Eaton and Joel Eaton; 18 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; also a niece and nephew, Carol Gardner and Don Woolever and families. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday December 9, 2008 at the LaCygne Christian Church. Burial will be in the Cadmus Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 PM Monday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the LaCygne Christian Church.
