Orlando Ramirez

July 12, 1941 — July 24, 2021

On Saturday, July 24th 2021, Orlando “Paul” Ramirez, the son of Rita Cruz Lopez, passed in his home in Mound City, Kansas at the age of 80.

Viewing will be held 9 am-10am and Funeral services will be 10am-11 am, August 3, 2021 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston and burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston.

Paul was a long-time resident of Galveston, Texas and was the second eldest out of his seven siblings. Like his mother, Rita, he started his career working for Shipley’s in Texas City, alongside with his younger brother Alvino “Babe” Ramirez making donuts. He was widely known for being a huge Dallas Cowboy super fan and loved nothing more than to banter with the Houston Oiler fans in the early morning hours at Shipley’s. He loved listening to blues and oldies but goodies Dj’d by Babe, while making donuts and talking about the good old days. He was confident in his dancing skills, which could only be attributed to all the family parties at grandmas. He even won a dance contest once! He had a passion for collecting old money in all forms, which passed on to his children. He loved traveling with his sons visiting Native American land, and was also a great storyteller.

He was a survivor of cancer but succumbed to Gods request to be with him, where he can walk amongst the angels as the strong man he once was. Without a doubt, his first statement to God will be “How about them Cowboys”!

He had the life that God allowed him to have, by letting his choices to be fulfilled. We should seek comfort in that, and understand that Death has taken his body, God has taken his soul, but our faith lets us know that we will meet again! Let us not cry today because his life is over but rejoice that his life has begun again with our Father.

Paul is preceded in death by his mother Rita C. Lopez, his daughter Samantha T. Ramirez, grandson Kyle Ramirez, brother-in law Al Vargas.  He is survived by his wife Carie Bethea Ramirez, children Rita L. Ramirez; Tina M. Cochnauer (Robert Cochnauer) Angela Jaimes (Ismael Jaimes) Chris Ramirez (Jennifer Ramirez) JT Bethea (Whitney Bethea) Courtney R. Ramirez, 12 Grand Children and 8 Great-Grandchildren.  His sisters, Rose Vargas, Tina Blume (Richard Blume), Stella Varela (Michael Varela).
