Pearl Marie Johnson, Prescott, Kansas died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the Prescott Countryview Nursing Home, Prescott. She was born August 6, 1920 in Prescott, Kansas the daughter of Charles and Dorcas Bradshaw Holmes. She graduated from Prescott High School in 1939. She married Robert Willard Johnson on September 14, 1941 at Mound City, Kansas. Marie and Bobby lived all of their married life in the Prescott community. Marie worked in Sutherland's Grocery Store in Prescott until taking over the Prescott Telephone Exchange on Main street in Prescott where the family lived and worked for six years when it sold to Craw-Kan Telephone Company. She then worked at Kress Store in Fort Scott until she was hired as the secretary of the Prescott School. After retiring from the Prescott School, Marie moved into Friendship Villa, the Senior Citizen Housing, which she managed for several years. Marie was known throughout Prescott and surrounding communites for her happy disposition, quickness with a joking remark, and her readiness to help those in need. She loved people and enjoyed the noise and confusion of family and friends gathering together. That love was returned by all whose lives she touched. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby, her parents, a brother, Bill Holmes, and a sister, Opal Higgins. She is survived by a son; charles Johnson and wife, Mary Kay of Prescott, Kansas; one daughter, Ermalea Mitzner and husband, Fred of Fort Scott, Kansas; four grandchildren, who know her as "Grandma Pearlie", Mike Mitzner and wife, Pam of Colorado Springs, Colorado; DeAnn Dawson and husband, Jeff of Mound City, Kansas; Jerome Mitzner and wife, Lesli of LaCygne, Kansas; Jennifer Leich and husband, Randy of LaCygne; eleven great-grandchildren, who knew her as "Grandma Great" and a wealth of family and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the Prescott United Methodist Church, Prescott, Kansas. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Contributions are suggested to the Prescott Countryview Activity Fund.
