Roger Obermeier

Roger Carl Obermeier, age 78, Linn Valley, Kansas passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at his home. He was born at home in Linn County, Kansas, where Linn Valley is now, on November 18, 1940 the son of Fred and Jessie Cook Obermeier. He graduated from Paola High School in the Class of 1958. He proudly served in the United States Army, even though he was discharged early due to medical reasons. Carl was married to Shirley Flesher on June 12, 1960. He worked as a Carman for the Missouri Pacific later the Union Pacific Railroad and was a member of the Carman''s Union. He was a member of the Linn Valley Community Church, Treasurer of the Deacon''s Fund, Past President of the Hillsdale Ruritan Club, and past secretary/treasurer for the Hillsdale Improvement District. He coached little league baseball, enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He had a total of five hole in ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Wayne Obermeier, and a sister, Karen Block. Carl is survived by his wife, Shirley, son, Roger Obermeier Jr. and wife Brenda; daughter, Melanie Smith and husband Kevin; brother, Fred Obermeier and wife Joyce; a sister, Oona Mae Woodhead; five grandchildren: Shawna, Shane, Shea, Eric, and Austin; six great grandchildren: Cainen, Ashton, Lily, Kiera, Brylynn and Brandon; a sister in law, Carole Obermeier; and brother in law Glenn Block. Funeral service will be 10 am Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the Linn Valley Community Church. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Contributions are suggested to the Linn Valley Community Church.
