Roy Stroup

Roy A. Stroup, age 94, Fontana, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Aberdeen Village in Olathe, Kansas. He was born on November 23, 1923 at Cadmus, Kansas the son of Cornelius Vaughn and Iva Pearl McMichael Stroup. He graduated from Parker High School. Roy married Vivian Boettcher on May 15, 1948. She preceded him in death on January 3, 2007. He was a farmer, had a dairy herd, and raised hogs and cattle. He was a member of the La Cygne United Methodist Church, Golden Sheaf member of the Cadmus Grange, seventy year of the La Cygne Masonic Lodge #61, Scottish Rite Consistory, and Mirza Temple. He was involved in the Linn County Fair, starting the livestock sale, and serving as a Fair Board Member. He was a 4-H and FFA supporter working as a club and project leader. He served as President of the Kansas Pork Producers Council, on the Linn County and Kansas State Extension Boards, and the Miami County Co-Op Board. He received recognition as a Farm Bureau Century Farm and Kansas Master Farmer. He was an avid Kansas State University fan, having all three of his children graduate from KSU. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Earl Stroup and three sisters: Berniece Doering, Gladys Schroder, and Fern Stroup in infancy, and his dachshund, Oscar. Roy is survived by two sons, Myron Stroup and wife Peggy, and Jeff Stroup and wife Cathy, one daughter, Cindy Kolich and husband Mike, eight grandchildren: Amber, Austin, Autumn, Mindy, Sean, Aaron, Misty and Caleb; thirteen great grandchildren: Kaden, Kally, Kirbie, Ryker, Evelynn, Madison, Brandon, Jesse, Kord, Rylie, Rhett, Ryatt, and Indigo. Funeral service will be 10 am Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the La Cygne United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Cadmus Cemetery. Masonic Service will be held 5 pm Friday, December 15 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory La Cygne Chapel. Visitation will follow until 7pm.
