Virgil Spencer

Virgil Elmer Spencer, age 82, Mound City, Kansas passed away Friday, September 17, 2021. He was born on August 8, 1939 in rural Mound City, Kansas the son of Elmer Allen and Thelma Barker Spencer.  As a very young man Virgil knew he needed Christ, so he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age.  He graduated from Mound City High School in the Class of 1958.  He was united in marriage to Donna Lyn Scott on October 26, 1958.  After graduation, Virgil worked at Irwin's Hardware, then for Williamson Construction.  He also worked at Mound City Lumber Yard, delivered propane for Skelgas, and finished his working career as head of maintenance for Jayhawk Linn.  He also was a partner in a trophy business, farmed and raised goats.  He was a member of the Mound City Christian Church.  Virgil was the definition of a family man.  He and Donna Lyn went to all of their kids and grandkids events.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Willard Allen Spencer, and a grandson, Brandon Michael Workman.  Virgil is survived by his wife, Donna Lyn, two sons, Steve Spencer and wife Sherri, and Larry Spencer and wife, Shannon, two daughters, Kathy Workman and husband Mike, and Keri Jo Purinton, and husband Dan, a sister, Glenda Fielding and husband Charlie, a sister in law, Florance Spencer, fifteen grandchildren and spouses, Nikki Nation(Jeff), Tyler Spencer(Jamie), Miles Spencer(Katie), Keylee Hulsing(Jerry), Amber Dembkowski(Ryan), Courtney Mell(Josh), Doug Workman(Hope), Darcy Workman, Lucas Fornelli(Bethany), Ashton Schuler(Dusty), Sydney Sunderland(Cody), Daniel Purinton(Alissa), Sam Purinton, Luke Purinton, and Noah Purinton, and seventeen great grandchildren and another due in December, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be 2 pm Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Mound City Christian Church.  Burial in the Woodland Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 12:30 pm to service time at the Church.  Contributions are suggested to Mound City Christian Church.  Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
