Vivian Edna Coon, 89, passed away at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas on Good Friday, March 21, 2008. A former resident of Mound City, Kansas, she had been residing at the Residencies of Pleasanton since May, 2006. Vivian was born at Farlinville, Kanas, the fourth child of Berton VanBuren Johnson and Edna Pearl Masters Johnson on March 17, 1919. She attended Farlinville school and graduated from Mound City High School in 1937. On April 28, 1940 she and Charlie Earl Coon were married at the home of Reverend Wood in Mound City. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2005. As a young girl she assisted families that needed help due to illness. Charlie and Vivian moved to Wichita where he worked at Boeing Aircraft. They resided in Farragut, Idaho for a time while Charlie was in the Marines during World War II. In 1948 they returned to Linn County where they farmed and operated a dairy until moving to Mound City in 1993. Vivian was an active member of the Lost Creek EHU and the American Legion Auxiliary. She acted as a 4-H leader when her daughters were in 4-H. She had little time for hobbies as she was active in the farming and dairy operations but after they quit milking, she found time to make each of her granddaughters a quilt. She and Charlie also took some trips at that time which they really enjoyed. As the Residencies she kept active by walking a lot, keeping track of how far she had walked each day.
