Walter Herman Hopkins Jr., age 68, of Hume, Missouri passed away Sunday, October 16, 2005 at his home. He was born October 20, 1936 at home in Hume, Missouri. He was the third child of Walter Sr. and Viola Phillips Hopkins. He grew up in the Hume community, graduating from Hume High School in 1954. Following high school, Walter worked at Arron's in Fort Scott. In 1956 he married Katherina "Kathy" Ermalee Potter. Kathy passed away in 1976 after a long battle with cancer. Their three daughters, Karen Jean, Kelley Maxine and Karla Sue grew up in Hume while "The Hop" worked at Kansas City Life and Later at Banta Printing for 38 years where he became a Master Printer. In 1977 Walter married Diane White. Junior was well-known in his hometown for "picture perfect" gardens and tons of tomatoes. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing cards and visiting the Kansas City casinos occasionally. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tom. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Diane of the home; his nearby daughters, Karen McKinley and husband, Tim , 'Kelley Hopkins and Karla Davidson and husband, Jeff, all of Hume, Missouri; step-children, Doug White and wife, Shelli, and LeAnna Fisher and husband, Jeff, all of Adrian, Missouri. "Hop" is survived by his grandchildren; Kenney McKinley, Stephanie (McKinley) Chaplin, Cheyenne and Samantha Davidson; his great grandchild-to-be, chaplin and his step grandchildren, Kevin and Jeffrey Fisher and Eerik and Brendin White; two sisters, Edith Peterson and husband, Harry of Fort Scott, Kansas and Dollie Brown and husband, Gary of Fulton, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 2;00 PM, Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at the Hume Cemetery, Hume, MO. Contributions are suggested to the Hume Cemetery Association or Heartland Hospice Service.
