William Miles

William John "Bill" Miles, 69, of La Cygne, Kansas died on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas.  Bill was born in Emporia, Kansas on February 2, 1953 to Francis Marion and Gladys Irene (Hawkins) Miles.  He attended K-12 at Osage City Schools and graduated from Osage City High School with the Class of 1971.  Following graduation, he joined the navy on active duty and then continued to serve his country as a member of the Naval Reserve.

On October 28, 2000, Bill married his sweetheart, Jan in Burlington, Kansas.  Bill was a hard worker, even after retirement he continued to work part-time for Peoples Services, LLC in La Cygne as a fiber optic phone technician while also working part-time for the La Cygne Lake Marina.  Bill loved to fish for anything that swims, he also enjoyed metal detecting and camping.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Marion Miles on February 13, 1979, and his mother, Gladys Irene Holz on December 3, 1999; one brother, Gerald Hayden Miles in May 1994; one sister, Linda Miles Smitha Sisney in 2017; and one nephew Marc Smitha in 1985.

Survivors include his wife Jan of the home; two daughters, Monica (Jarrod) Decker and their children, Jordan, Dillon, Drue, and Abbey, and Jennifer Miles; one step-daughter, Angela Compton-Wright and her three daughters; one step-son, Brandon Compton and his daughter and son; sister-in-law Elaine Miles; brother-in-law, Dale Smitha; three nieces, Michelle Miles Kessell, Sherrie Miles Hert Schamp, and Erin Smitha Thornton; two nephews, Scott Smitha, Chad Smitha.

The family will have a memorial service for Bill at a later date when he will be laid to rest in Osage City Cemetery, Osage City, Kansas.  Friends and family may leave online condolences at www.schneiderfunerals.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Schneider Funeral Homes & Crematory, La Cygne Chapel.
