Windell Virgil Cannon, a life-long resident of Hume, Missouri, passed away on October 13, 2013. He was born on August 6, 1940, in Prescott, Kansas to Virgil W. and Velva Ernestine Cannon. He attended school in Indian Creek and in Hume with his brothers: Kenneth Dale, Perry Norman, and Marin Ralph. He continued living in the Hume community as he raised his family including his two sons, Virgil Dean and Ronald Leon; his stepson, Joe Daugherty; and one daughter, Angela Lynn Nicholas. Windell has been known for his talent and skill in construction. As a young man, he established Cannon Construction which has been responsible for many homes and bridges in Bates County. On January 2, 1973, Windell and Brenda Edmondson were married. He has always been especially proud that both sons and one grandson followed him in the constructions business. In addition to his love of family and the Sunday evening gatherings, Windell has long enjoyed fishing, frying fish, and even feeding Hume fair-goers with fried fish. A loyal supporter of the annual Hume fair and Rodeo, Windell is known for donating a colt each year. He has been honored to be the parade marshal and to have received a plaque of appreciation from the Fair Board. Windell was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; Kenneth and Norman; a son Darryl Wayne Cannon, a grandson Theron Cannon, and three nephews; Terry, Heath, and Jeffrey Cannon. Windell is survived by wife Brenda of the home; son, Dean of Hume, son Ronnie and Audrey of Hume; daughter, Angie Nicholas and Lance of Hume; stepson Joe of Fort Scott, brother, Marion Cannon and Joyce of Hume; and grandchildren Bryce Cannon and Jamie of Hume; Kenya McFrederick and Adrien , of Hume; Zackary and Dylan Nicholas, of Hume; Shannon Perry and Ray of Grove, Oklahoma; and Sherri Brandt of Wyandotte, Oklahoma; great grandchildren Jaylynn Moore, Braydon and Wyatt Cannon; Malia, Payton, and Talia McFrederick; Alyssa and Hayden Perry, and Katlyn and Logan Brooks, and a host of family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday October 16, 2013 at the Hume Cemetery.
